hurt my back

i pulled my back last wednesday. i went to work but it was real bad. stayed home on thursday because i had an appointment with and orthopedic doctor due to my wrist. for some reason i thought they could also do something about my back. they couldn't. so friday i went to my regular doctor and she told me to do my stretches and gave me some celebrex and muscle relaxers. i rested all weekend and somehow when doing my stretches on saturday night i aggravated a nerve or something and got vertigo. i had to cancel my trip up to chicago for the weekend which i was supposed to go for mother's day.

since i had to do my stretches every two hours and was still vertigo, i stayed home monday too. on monday night when getting up from the couch i pulled it again and hurt it alot more. i tried to walk it out but ended up getting really dizzy and when i was trying to make it back to my bed to lay down i passed out. i woke up to the dogs all licking my face. i was stuck on the ground due to my hurt back for at least 20 minutes.

i called the doctor again on tuesday and she gave me some other medicine called prednisone. it's some type of steriod that i guess is supposed to help. i feel a bit better today but it still hurts to sit and get up and down. i did find out the using a heating pad and laying on the floor with my feet up on the ottoman really helps alleviate the pain.

i've been barely on the computer at all because it's too uncomfortable. kia has been staying with me. she's gone most days but i like it that i know i'm not totally alone. she watches all those court shows and each night when she gets back we catch up on them. it's hysterical to watch them with her. i'm now really into judge mathis. he's really great. she also got me into Inferno 3 which is the Road Rules vs. Real World challenge.

Last.fm wins Webby

I LOVE Last.fm. I'm kind of addicted to it. I am psyched to find out that it won a webby award. I wish more of my real friends would sign up cuz it's lots of fun.

from CNet:
The site, which has taken off in popularity in the last year, works like a combination of iTunes and MySpace.com or Friendster. Users download a plugin that takes data about what songs they're listening to in their primary media player and uploads it to a personalized Web page. They can see charts of their weekly and overall listening patterns by artist and track listing, get and make recommendations, and keep an online journal for others to read. They can also make "friends" with others on the site and see what those people are listening to most. Last.FM also searches its database for other users with similar listening patterns, called neighbors.

National Geographic Wild

This is cool! National Geographic just put out a really neat broadband site called NBC Wild. There are some amazing video clips. Half are blocked at my network at work but I hope to check it out later tonight.

Police Concert at Wrigley Field

Hell Ya! I'm going to see The Police on their reunion tour in Chicago. And not just in Chicago - at Wrigley Field!!!!! Last year Jimmy Buffet played there but that was the only other concert there. It is going to be so awesome.

When I was talking to Tiffany on Friday she mentioned that she got tickets to go see them. That was the first time I heard they were playing at Wrigley Field. It sounded like so much fun and I was so jealous that she didn't have any extra tickets. Yesterday I was at the grocery store and a Police song came on over the loudspeakers there and it made me totally want to go. I got home and looked for tickets but they were not listed at Ticketmaster.

This morning Tiffany surprised me and told me that Brenda is not crazy about going to see them so I get her ticket if I want it. YEAH!!!! The concert is on 7/6 so I just asked for two days vacation. I'm hoping to fly up on the 4th of July and stay through the 8th.

Bat for Lashes

I'm really into this show called London Live on the new MOJO High Def channel my cable provider has so generously provided. It seems to have a lot of shows with British hosts which I love. I used to by the Mojo music magazine because it was so awesome. I was broke but would always try to penny up the $10 I needed for that imported magazine.

The London Live show usually has three different bands performing in a small, House of Blues-sized venue. It always looks like so much fun. I just saw an amazing performance by a group called Bat for Lashes. Never heard of them before but I think I'll hear of them more in the future. That gal has an amazing voice. Below is the video for their first single.

Who Goes Home?

TWO people have to go home tonight on American Idol. I only think Chris should go home. I think I should get to see the others perform at least one more time.

Bon Jovi will be performing later.

Blake reminds me of someone . . . not sure. He's cute but not hot. He seems nice, but I can't tell. And not that it matters, but is he gay? Maybe not gay but he seems kind of feminine sometimes. I know, he's kind of like Toby McGuire.

Surprise! Robin Thicke is in the house. I thought Bon Jovi was the only performer tonight. He's okay. What's up with his little moustache thingy?

That was the coolest Idol Ford commercial. They were dressed up funky and sang Paint it Black by the stones. Blake was the ringmaster. Melinda had wings. Jordin was a mermaid. Way cool.

Oh no! Either Phil, Lakisha or Melinda is going home . . . who do I want, Phil or Lakisha??? Oh no, neither! Oh shit. Phil is going home. Too bad. But he had a good run. His video at the end was so good . . . he seems like such a great guy. Will we see him again? Will he get a record contract. I think so - or at least I won't be surprised. Hope he doesn't go too country. Wow, his final performance was so good too. He went down by his navy friends and his wife. Hugged the judges. Then went over to the other contestants to say goodbye.

plumbing problems

My cleaning people were in my house and they called to let me know I had water backed up everything. Coming out of the drains in the tubs, up through the shower, out of the toilet. So I asked around at work. Alan doesn't know of a plummer. Randy recommended the Drain Doctors which his friend used about a week ago. I got home by about 2 and they got here about 2:30. They have been here all afternoon and the diagnosis is that when they built my house the pipes that lead out to the sewer have a slight incline. So over time a bunch of sludge and icky stuff has built up and is not backflowing. It also blew out a ring on one of the toilets so I had to have that replaced ($175). It's a total of $550 out of my pocket tonight.

Working with the plummers, who are really nice and a great team, they walked me through calling the builder and getting someone to come out tomorrow to work through my situation. No washing, showers, baths, etc. Don't flush the toilet. They told me they've cleared it out but that should only last about 24-hours. The expense to fix the pipes out to the sewer was quoted at $1500. HOPEFULLY the builder will fix it all and pick up all the costs.

Muse - Time is Running Out

I just found these guys. I've heard of MUSE for a while but for some reason I always assumed they were the Throwing Muses which is an old group from the 80s. Look what I missed out on! They are so awesome.

Idols Sing Bon Jovi

I've been waiting for tonight! I heard a few days ago that it's "rock" night. Jon Bon Jovi is mentoring. Really, it was himself and the keyboardist from the group. And it's not "rock" night, it's "Bon Jovi" night!

Phil Stacey started it off with "Blaze of Glory" and it was awesome!!! Good job Phil! It's so weird because during the first shows I thought he was so good and then he got really week and now he's back again. Paula and Randy raved and Simon says he doesn't even think that Phil will make it to next week. NO WAY! Well, I guess that depends on the other five.

How cool, Jordin Sparks is singing "Living with a Prayer". Oh God, how depressing. Jordin said HER MOM grew up on Bon Jovi. I grew up on Bon Jovi!!! She looks great out there singing, but I like Bon Jovi's version better. Can't help it. It's like her voice doesn't vary enough. She hits the strong notes just great, but misses alot. She has a unique voice which works really well on simple songs, but it seems to mess this one up. She performed it really well though. The judges thought the same thing as me . . . not her best.

So since it's a commercial my mind has wandered onto considering what song I would sing if I was an Idol. Not that I'd sing any song good, but I like to thing of which song fits my personality. I LOVE "Wanted Dead of Alive" but I'd never sing it. Maybe "It's My Life" which is one of their newer songs. That's a fun song to sing.

LaKisha is so cute! She didn't want to sit cuz she looks better standing. If Jordin had problems I wonder what she'll do? She's singing "It Ain't a Love Song". Never heard of it, but Jon Bon Jovi says she found one of the only soul songs. WOW! She's awesome. I'm buying this MP3. She sounded so good and the song itself is great. And the judges RAVED. How cute! Simon told her she was so good that he could kiss her so she came down and got a kiss :)

Ryan said that Blake is up next and he's going out on a limb. Does that mean in his song choice or is that a pun on the song lyrics? He's singing "You Give Love A Bad Name." That's an awesome one too! Maybe I'd sing it. I see - Blake is really changing it up and doing a very unique lyric. Okay, he's frigging cool. The difference between him with this really popular song and Jordin with the one she sang, is that Blake changed it up so much that you can't compare apples to apples anymore. And he only really did it with the lyrics - not the refrain. So he kept lots of singing the same. Then he adds in a bunch of beat boxing. It's way funky cool. I'm buying this MP3 too. That was just alot of fun. And the judges gave thumbs up all around.

Well, I will fess up, without anyone even singing I think it's Chris's time to go home. And he's coming up next and I'm not expecting anything all that great. SHIT! I just remembered that TWO are going home tomorrow. No one got eliminated last week because of the charity thing. By the way, they made $70 Million!

Chris has decided to sing "Wanted Dead of Alive". And they reminded us that Chris Daughtry sang it last year - and HIS performance was awesome! That was the single they chose to add to the American Idol album. Chris did okay. It didn't blow me away and I want him to go home because I want all the others to stay.

Mindy Doo is up next! What will she choose? She can probably belt out some good rock songs. She was doing back up for all different types. And if she can do country like she did that week, she can do a Bon Jovi song. Melinda's singing "Have a Nice Day" which is one of their newest. Bon Jovi told her to take it to church! Well hello Aretha or Tina! Melinda was nothing like Bon Jovi but she was awesome. She sang it very strong. Like a determined woman. And it came out great. Randy called it "Tina Turner attitude". Simon said the same thing.

Wow, the pres and Mrs. Bush gave a speech thanking America for donating. So where's our government's contributions? Anyways. . . $70 Million is awesome.

Interactive Jamestown Web Site

This is cool . . . The History Channel launched an interactive website for the 400th anniversary of the settling of Jamestown. I'm such a history dork that I think this is cool, but there it is. It's really for teachers but it is so neat. There are video clips with various professors answering questions. It's a nice time waster for me :)
